Wimbledon

Surprised no thread been started yet! (Unless I’ve missed it).

Murray easily through to the semi. Looks like he’s on form, but I’ve only watched highlights.

Anyone following?

Yep although interrupted by small granddaughter’s sports day. Engrossed in Wawrinka v Gasquet ATM

Me too. I always think it’s funny how entertaining something can be, that is essentially just about hitting a ball over a net multiple times.

Saw tBrown knock out Nadal - great match. Not a great tennis lover but it does draw you in. Watching Wawrinka too right now. Dont get how these guys put i so much effort then get up the next day and do it all over again yet young footballers are too tired to play through a season (well some of them).

Epic Fail from MLT!

From @danscho1’s Wimbledon diary. Poor Le Tiss.

I was watching… Then I realised that I have absolutely no idea what is going on so seemed like an irrelevent activity.

Hope Murray wins though!

I’ve never been able to undertand the fascination with Tennis, or Golf for that matter, it bores me ridged…each to their own though!.

The atmosphere at tennis game is bit peculiar, cos most often the crowd are impartial, and don’t really give a fuck who wins, but I think it’s a Good Game. I would sooner be a Tennis Bro than even a Football Bro I reckon. It seems a good gig! Ur like ur own boss. You don’t have to play when it’s raining. Lots of travel. Dame in every port. All the Robinsons you can drink.

Tennis is hard work though and makes your bum ache.

Maybe I was doing it wrong though.

I like it when the female players crouch so low when they return a shot, they’re almost sat on the ground!

I think they’re amazing.

Good for you Lou!..no different from me watching a game of football and saying ‘I loved the way he stroked that ball home’.

Back in the day. Well 1985 to be precise. I was travelling with a pal to see the Boss (Springsteen)'s 1st ever UK gig. We went up early as I had to work & had a meeting in Kingston at 10am.

As it finished at 11 we saw a Standard poster that said Wombledon play to start at Noon (due to rain delays). This was the 2nd Wednesday of the tournament. We said wtf let’s go have a look. Drove to Wombledon, followed signs to a Car Park, paid 5 quid and parked. Some geezer said “This way lads” and we walked through a turnstile to find ourselves in the whole Wombledon place thingy.

Well, I hate Tennis but we thought wtf & paid (what seemed) like 500 quid for some strawberries, bought a programme and joined a queue for what we thought was the loo.

Then a load of peeps came out and some other geezer said OK in you come and Kaboom. We were there standing in Centre Court. Becker vs McEnroe Qtr Final no less.

Of course no cameras in those days & no mobiles but we had an awesome afternoon of amazeballs. Left & legged it to Wembley to sing the songs & get the Tee Shirt (which I still have). Got home about 3am and at 7am I hear this YOU BSTD YOU XXXXX I HATE YOU. I want a DIVORCE. Yep, ex Mrs D-P was a tennis fan and wasn’t happy seeing my 2.5 quid ticket stub and the programme on the kitchen table.

(Bored now Phil)

BUT the amazeballs thing was I got out of it back then by saying “I’ll take you next year no matter what”. And yep, exactly the same thing except it was 2.80 quid to get in and it was Jan Kodes & Becker I think.

Anyways. whenever anyone bores me with tennis these days I can just say I’ve been on Centre Court twice & it cost me less than a pint in Dubai.

Yes I have retired from golf but if ANYONE on here posts any OTHER thread about things I hate then you are fair game for a D_P story.

Andy Murray vs Roger Federer

Date: Friday 10 July Play: Centre Court from 13:00 BST (Djokovic v Gasquet followed by Murray v Federer)

If only I wasn’t at darned work!

Go Andy!

Is it just me or does Andy Murray look like something out of The Simpsons, only less yellow?

Oh no! Andy Murray lost the first set :frowning:

Federer playing out of his skin ATM :slight_frown:
