šŸ•¹ šŸŽ® Xbox or PlayStation?

When XBox Live was first released, it really blew me away. Up until that point, netcode on PC games had been hit and miss. This was fucking seamless, relatively speaking. I maintained a Gold live subscription for years, and as many people will attest, Iā€™m not a console fanboy. I completely accept that Iā€™m going to get done every time Nintendo makes a console, because you can only get certain games there, every time that Sony releases one, and until recently, every time Microsoft released something. This is after guffawing like fuck when they announced their intent to make a console, and having to eat a lot of humble pie when I finally saw an original XBox running. Still one of my favourite consoles; I have two in the house, along with two 360s.

Barring hugely expensive novelties like the Neo Geo, I have historically treated consoles like a trainer treats Pokemon. Gotta catch them all. I still do not have an XBox One. The last time a console shaped surplus appeared in my budget, I actually bought another PS4. Juvenile Unit #1 has the original.

Completely accept that if you have all your friends on XBox Live, a One is a good move, and FWIW, Iā€™m not far off the tipping point where the amount of exclusive content makes it a worthwhile purchase (bear in mind that I am not a Halo geek). However, Iā€™ve got a bunch of friends that simply never moved off Sony during Microsoftā€™s ascendance, including most of my family. During the 360 age, that really was to their detriment. The relative complexity of the PS3 compared to the 360 meant that the PS3 was a poor cousin when comparing cross platform efforts.

Nowadays, PS4 is best for cross platform, Wii U has the best exclusives (Nintendo, innit?). The XBox One has some great exclusives, many more than the PS4 has, but theyā€™re not all Triple A.

To antā€™s comment about media; if youā€™re not using Kodi to do media, youā€™re doing it wrong.

Iā€™m getting that way with Xbox, pap. Thereā€™s a lot of stuff there I want to play, but canā€™t. A big one for me is Ori & The Blind Forest. Grew up on platformers, and still to this day nothing beats a good platformer for me. A god damn is this game beautiful

ā€¦Yes, it is also on pc. But I havnā€™t got one of fucking them either.

Iā€™m generally still putting discs in to watch films and a HDMI cable into my laptop to watch football - I claim nothing in the way of media-streaming expertise!

Iā€™m not necessarily talking about streaming. If there is a better media player full stop, Iā€™d like to know about it. Runs on almost everything. Our media centre is a Raspberry Pi2

Good articles from Kotaku on the state of various consoles.

This is a laugh. Conversation between a disgruntled XBox One owner and Phil Spencer, head of XBox.

@ XboxP3 And sad to say, I cancelled my Quantum Break pre-order as I said I would. You werenā€™t up front on QB going to PC.

Phil Spencer ā€@ XboxP3 Feb 11

@ The_CrapGamer You cancelled a pre-order for a game you want to play because someone else getā€™s to play the game on Windows?

Nolan? :lou_sunglasses:

Tempted to get a PS4 just for No Manā€™s Sky. Jealous.

Playstation, no competition.

This has been a computer game since the 1980s. I remember owning the C64 version. The modern versions are less hassle than the actual boardgame.

However, seeing as youā€™ve stuck your head above the parapet just to express your love for the analogue, and thereā€™s no harm in that, I have a specific ā€œhalfway houseā€ recommendation for you. Tabletop Simulator. Itā€™s a physics sandbox which just simulates a table. It neither knows nor cares the rules of any games youā€™re playing. It just knows how things move.

Why in the name of all that is holy would I want to simulate a table? Miranda Kerr? Yes. Table? No.

Unless I can simulate Miranda Kerr on the table?

To play board games against people from anywhere in the world. I know. Itā€™s tremendously analogue, which is why I thought it might be a good stepping stone.

Fuck me , I only play board games because Iā€™m forced to when wife/relatives want to be ā€˜traditionalā€™.

Or I want to show off.

Otherwise Iā€™ll stick to Tube Galore like normal.

If you like Street Fighter, there is only one console choice.

I would just like to say that I called this on TSW in 2013 or early 2014 at the latest. Not this exact game, but third parties either not releasing stuff on PS4 or not making it a priority. The XBox One has just got Rocket League, released six months ago on PS4.

Fair play to their fanbase. Stoic and loyal. I remember deluding myself in similar ways during the final days of the Amiga.

The era of one console lasting an entire generation is over, says Microsoft, with Xbox boss Phil Spencer suggesting we could see a more powerful Xbox One console this generation.

ā€œIn other [consumer technology] ecosystems you get more continuous innovation in hardware that you rarely see in consoles because consoles lock the hardware and software platforms together at the beginning and they ride the generation out for seven years or so,ā€ said Spencer at press event in San Francisco last week and reported by The Guardian. ā€œWeā€™re allowing ourselves to decouple our software platform from the hardware platform on which it runs.ā€

Bullshit-to-English translation: We fucked our hardware offering up and need to do another one.

No Mans sky does look awesome , have preordered it

Only real Xbox title Iā€™ve ever been jealous of was Halo. I used to get playstations beause they tended to have exclusivity over the final fantasy games and they were my all time favourite. Think it only started becoming multi console at 13 but I may be wrong.

As games are usually multi console there really isnā€™t an awful lot to choose between them other than brand loyaly and for me the PS controller has always felt much much nicer in the hand than the Xbox ones

Thing is, Bungie arenā€™t doing Halo anymore. Itā€™ll be like Nintendo not doing Zelda.

Iā€™m still a destiny addict despite it not being perfect. I understand why people slag it off bu t ther ei s still a ton of content there and Iā€™ve had my monies worth many times over.

I have a 360 (not had long)so may look at someof the old halo titles one of these days
