You could waste hours of your life on here

Here’s a wonderful site that allows you to see, side-by-side, two maps showing a modern day location with the same place years ago.

Start here and have a browse.

I can’t find the option to show satellite images from the 1920s.

If anyone finds it, give me a shout.

OH HELL! More time to waste online,

The National Library of Scotland have just released a fresh set of 25" to the mile OS maps of selected cities and probably many rural areas from 1842-1952. This is a sample of the Southampton coverage which is complete…the edition from 1910. http://maps.nls.uk/view/105987322

This is the general index map to select the area you’re interested in: http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=11&lat=50.9388&lon=-1.4965&layers=64&b=1&point=0,0

I need some more time to explore the site but it looks like the best online source for historical mapping. :lou_lol: ** I post this from 1st October last year. In the “Southampton - Past In Pictures” thread.**

Yours is shit, @lifeintheslowlane .

Mine is much better.

Plus I didn’t hide the link away in some obscure thread for old people.

This way us youngsters can get to enjoy it too.

Just great - there was a great fecking pond where my house is :lou_angry:

Good grief…get with it youngster. I drew half of those Victorian maps of Southampton early in my career.

Must of had a sinkhole feeling when you saw that :lou_lol:

You must be pretty sad if you waste hours of your life on a website.

Yeah, the other thing I’ve noticed is that in the olden days the names of the roads and areas were physically written on the roads and across the grass in the fields.

Weird.

Toke’s a ****.

Nope, piqued my interest for 10 minutes then I got bored…

Do you remember dem days beltch? That seems useful invention before google maps and uber etc.

Spent at least 4 mins on Willments Marine and Business Park. What a place! It has everything really … Boats, business stuff, boats.
