šŸ—£ Gigs

Love We Are Scientists. With Love & Squalor was a cracking album.

Bumped into Keith Murray on Denmark Street a little while ago. Totally fanboyed.

Last time I went to the Guildhall was more than 10 years ago and the sound was shit. Has it changed in the intervening time?

Father John Misty is gracing the denizens of Hampshire (excluding Portsmouth) with his presence next spring.

Saw Seasick Steve there a few years ago and swore I would never go again. It is dogshit.

I am surprised that you were surprised.

I worked at the Guildhall for 13 years on and off so have a very soft spot for the place. Love the architecture. Not so much the carpet. I saw Primal Scream there about 6 years ago and have to say the sound was appalling. Felt like my ears were bleeding. I now wear ear plugs which make all venues sound a whole load better. Trouble is a lot of these venues were built for different purpose, music and shows and you canā€™t do much to change the building as theyā€™re often listed.

Oh and I saw Frank Turner on Thursday at Ally Pally. Even with someone pouring half a cider down my front on the first song I had the best time. I could see ( no 6 foot guys or gals in front of me) for pretty much the whole show. He was relentless as ever and went off crowds surfing near the end. Now seen him 11 times, 7 since September 2014. Total fangirl.

Yeah the city is and has been crying out for a decent sized purpose built concert venue for a long time. The Mayflower has over the years seen a lot of good rock concerts but that finished in the late '70s when the season long West End musical bookings took over the place.

I really canā€™t remember a good concert sound at The Guildhallā€¦it seems bands only play there once, for good reason.

Itā€™s frustrating to see building work going on in the cityā€¦West Quay especially should have included a concert/arts/conference hall in one of the phases of the development.

Bit late with this one, but went to see The Charlatans in Newcastle on 17th December, having seen them a countless amount of times 10-15, this was the first time in about 8 years (mainly as their ticket prices are always off the scale). This gig was pretty poor. Not sure if it was bad sound in the venue, but they were not doing it for me on this occasion, just never seemed to hit the groove. I think this will be the last time I purchase tickets for their own gig, but will see them if at a festival.

Got my MUSE tickets today, now I know this will be mind blowing as per usual.

Saw Frank Turner in a field in East Meon this year - good Meon Valley boy.

Saw Charlatans on 19th at one of my fave venues, Brixton Academy. Really great show. Other half who has been a new fan felt it was the best we have seen from them.

Iā€™d like to see Beans on Toast in Camden tonight where Frank Turner is going to be. But after a day of work may not make it.

First gig of the year for me last night.

Home from work, sat on the sofa and browsing Twitter. See the band that I currently playing on repeat, Diet Cig, are playing just down the road in Shoreditch, for free, in less than an hour.

Decided to rush down there, by the time I grabbed a pint they were just starting. They were good fun. Plenty of energy, and some were enjoyable tunes to boot. Perhaps a little samey at times. Turns out it was their first London show, ever. So hopefully they get big (not sure how likely that is) and that can be a hipster claim for me.

Also really nice being home from a gig in around 25 minutes, and having only had 1 beer waking up today without a hangover. Good stuff all round. Happy KRG :lou_smiley:

Yeah but when they get big it wonā€™t be fair, at the moment they are your band and suddenly everyone will want a part of them.

Dems da sad rules of rock.

Saw Cancer Bats last night at the Wedge. Groovy as fuck and so tight. Really thought my neck would ache like hell today but holding up well!

Got a few half-decent photos and met the band after - very down to earth and appreciative. But then those Canadians seem a decent sort.

Guitarist Scott Middleton.

Vocalist Liam Cormier.

Liam contemplating the fact that heā€™s about to cut off his locks for charity. He was collecting donations in a welly boot by the merch table after the show.

The git poked his tongue out first and then left me hanging.

If you had that much energy left, ant, then you didnā€™t try hard enough at the football.

Off to see Will Varley at The Joiners in early March.

He could be a spiritual successor to Billy Bragg.

Iā€™ll have you know I can go for hours.

Tonight Iā€™ll be continuing my endearing man crush on a certain Mr Weeks. Off to see The Maccabees for about the 20th time (this is not hyperbole).

This years gig schedule is starting to come along. Booked myself to see Hinds in Feb & Weezer in April. Plus giving serious consideration to hopping over to BCN for Primavera, line up is an absolute stonker.

Iā€™m too old to go to gigs nowadays. I get too easily upset by people talking. I am, however, going to see Mark Steel in February. A nice sit down for a bit without all the youngsters being cunts.

Just bought my ticket to see Field Music at The Engine Rooms on 19th Marchā€¦touring their new album which is out in a couple of weeks.

I like to think Iā€™ll be the oldest thereā€¦but I doubt it.
