Dundee’s Hendry attracting Premier League interest

Southampton, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are following Dundee defender Jack Hendry ahead of a possible January move.
The 22-year-old has already drawn comparisons with England’s John Stones as a ball-playing centre-back not afraid to keep possession and pass out from defence.
Hendry even drew effusive praise from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers after impressing against the Scottish champions in October.
Began his career at Partick Thistle, where he made five appearances before securing a move to Wigan. The 22-year-old would only play three times for the Latics, with loan spells to Shrewsbury and MK Dons making up the bulk of his Wigan career. Hendry was sold to Dundee in the summer and has impressed in his first season.
‘The boy Hendry at the back I thought was excellent,’ said Rodgers. 'He’s quick and strong and is a good size.
‘Scotland need centre halves and that looks like a good kid. He’s tall, he can run and he can pass. He looks a talent.’
Hendry, though born in Glasgow, joined Dundee from Wigan Athletic in July and has 18 months left on contract.
However, the cash-strapped club will meet later this week to discuss Hendry’s future as interest mounts in their promising centre-back. Dundee know they can raise significant funds from his sale which can strengthen the club elsewhere.
Southampton expect Liverpool to return with a bid for Virgil Van Dijk, who also interests Chelsea, while Newcastle and Palace are eager to strengthen their options at the back also.
Hendry would take time to adjust to the Premier League but the trio are growing in belief he is definitely one that can improve for the future.
