After a long week training, Saints faced DC United Under-23s in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the RFK Stadium.
Claude Puel named two different sides for each half of the game, and James Ward-Prowse’s 16th minute strike put Saints ahead before a late penalty from Jay Rodriguez completed the scoreline.
The squad then returned to Staplewood Campus before flying out to Holland for their next set of preparations, where they faced a trio of Eredivisie teams.
First came a convincing 4-0 victory over PEC Zwolle before a late Sam Gallagher strike kept Saints’ unbeaten run going against Cuco Martina and Dušan Tadić’s former side, FC Twente.
The Holland trip was then concluded with a second trip to the Euroborg in as many seasons, where Charlie Austin’s 75th minute header ensured Saints completed their travels unbeaten.
The transfer rumour mill is in overdrive once again, so the Daily Echo is helping all Saints fans keep tabs on who the club has been linked to.
Below we’ll list all the rumours about who could be joining and leaving St Mary’s this summer, as Saints try to improve their squad for the 2017/18 campaign.
Oriol Romeu’s header was not enough to earn victory against Espanyol in the first fixture on home soil, as Felipe Caicedo’s converted penalty halted Saints’ run of four consecutive victories.
Athletic Bilbao were next up to visit St Mary’s the following Sunday in the final pre-season fixture, and Shane Long’s strike just before half time ensured Saints finished with a win.
Summer signing Nathan Redmond properly announced himself to the St Mary’s faithful on the opening day of the season, as he fired in on 58 minutes against Watford to cancel out Étienne Capoue’s earlier strike and start the league campaign with a draw.
However, a Zlatan Ibrahimović brace meant that Saints had to leave Old Trafford empty-handed in their next fixture, before a late Jay Rodriguez strike then ensured a 1-1 draw against Sunderland to complete the opening month after Jermain Defoe’s penalty had given the Black Cats a second-half lead.
The season has only just ended but transfers are happening thick and fast.
