Their nickname adorns their team shirt and they are often only ever referred to by their club and in the media by their one-word nickname.
But they all have full names, often with numerous middle names, that are largely unfamiliar to most football fans.
Some nicknames are abbreviations of their full names, others are a shortened or lengthened version of one of the full names, some look completely unrelated.

Saints return from 12 days without a game to play their penultimate league fixture of the season, and Jaïdi believes his players are well prepared for the visit of the Rams.
“We’ve been preparing for this game for enough time,” he started.
“So the boys understand what is required on the pitch and they are also all aware of the situation in the table.
“They know we need an extra push to get the result and hopefully we will see that from them all on Friday night.”
Jaïdi’s men suffered a late blow against Liverpool in their last league outing, as the visitors snuck in on 90 minutes to earn a share of the points at St Mary’s.
And he is hopeful of seeing his players put that result right against Derby.
“We’ve spoken a lot about that game,” Jaïdi continued.
“We know we had many opportunities, especially first half, and we should have really scored enough goals to finish the game.
“But as I said afterwards, it is another good experience and hopefully some of the younger boys will take away the important messages and we will see a reaction.”
Kick-off tonight is at 7pm BST, and entry to St Mary’s is free to supporters.

Virgil van Dijk: Southampton star is wanted by a host of Premier League sides
John Terry is off at the end of the season, and although Andreas Christiansen is returning from a two-year loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, Chelsea are keen on adding another defender.
Blues boss Conte is keen on a top-class addition to his backline.
The centre-back is high on Antonio Conte’s summer shopping list.
The Premier League leaders will be back in Europe next term and need to add depth to the squad.
Van Dijk fits the bill as a proven Premier League performer after impressing for Saints since his £11.5m move from Celtic in 2015.
The Dutchman’s value has soared since then, with a £50m fee touted for the 25-year-old.

The 17-year-old, who previously played for Arsenal, will now complete the remainder of his scholarship with Saints until the end of the season.
“I am delighted to have signed here,” explained Tella.
“It’s just a relief to know that I have found a place that I can settle down and crack on with my future.
“I had a really good ten years at Arsenal and I wouldn’t change any of it, but I am looking forward to starting a new chapter here now.”
Tella has spent a number of weeks on trial with Craig Fleming’s Under-18s side, and netted his first Southampton goal in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.
And the scholar believes his trial period helped to confirm that a move to the south coast was right for him.
“I knew this was the place for me,” he continued.
“I felt that straight that straight away. The team play the same football that I like to play and the boys are all very team orientated.
“The players are also really nice people off the pitch and have helped me to settle in quickly - I feel like I have known them all for a while already.”

It looks like Carl Jenkinson may finally be leaving Arsenal.
The 25-year-old full-back is a summer transfer target for both Brighton - following their promotion to the Premier League - and Newcastle - who look likely to join the Seagulls in the top flight.
Aside from an impressive loan spell with West Ham, Jenkinson has yet to live up to the potential he showed as a youngster at the Emirates, and leaving Arsenal would be the best decision for Jenkinson to make.
Moving to a new club would give him the chance to establish himself as a first-team regular - something which is never going to happen with the Gunners.

Saints Together campaign launches

Southampton Football club and Saints Foundation are proud to launch the ‘Saints Together’ campaign, which sets out the connection between the club, the Foundation and the community.
Over the next week, the club and the Foundation will be highlighting the fantastic work the charity does in our community, through the eyes of participants, partners and staff.
The Saints Together campaign focuses on the positive impact that Saints Foundation’s programmes have on the community and how these help children, young people and vulnerable adults to fulfil their potential.
Southampton Football Club’s chief executive, Gareth Rogers, sets out what the week is about with an overview of why the work of Saints Foundation is so important to the club.
“The Saints Together campaign is about celebrating all the amazing work our Foundation do in Southampton and the surrounding areas,” he said.
"It fills me with a great sense of excitement and pride when I see us helping the community, but we couldn’t do this without our community, or without the amazing people in our Foundation.
“One of the things that is very dear to us at the club is the concept of potential into excellence, and that fits in no better place than in the Foundation. They believe in everyone taking their potential and turning it into the excellence that is for them.”
Over the course of the coming week, we’ll hear from Martin Sinclair, SaintsAbility Development Officer, Phil Humphreys, Executive Headteacher (Oasis Academy Lordshill and Mayfield), Molly Garside, a Senior Saints participant, Jake Plummer, a former Lifelong Learning programme participant, and Anna Pink, a teacher at Hightown Primary School.
