Masuaku hands West Ham major boost ahead of must-win Southampton clash

Show/hide article…

Arthur Masuaku has returned to West Ham early after quitting the DR Congo camp.

The Hammers defender was in line to make his senior international debut against Tanzania after switching allegiance from France who he played for at youth level.

But the left-back is one of four players who asked to leave due to their unhappiness with how the trip was organised.

Former Chelsea youngster Gael Kakuta, ex-Spurs winger Paul-Jose Mpoku and Jordan Ikoko also returned to their clubs.

In a statement, the DR Congo FA said: “They all deplored certain organisational aspects of the course which, unfortunately, are neither within the competence of the Federation, much less the technical staff of the Congolese national team.

“Indeed, it must have frustrated the players. Some have cracked, shunned and asked to leave.”

Masuaku will be available again for West Ham’s vital clash against fellow relegation battlers Southampton on Saturday after serving a six-game ban for spitting.
