Mmmmm.
For me the most worrying aspect of this whole triggering craze (and it really is that) is the extent to which it panders indiscriminately.
So Nigel Farage can elevate his ‘discomfort’ about being on a train full of people talking non-English into a trigger trauma. Warnings will need to be sent out to everyone that whenever they see him they should switch to RP to soothe his hurt feelings. Then there’s the trigger trauma experienced by his acolytes whenever someone of an unapproved skin colour hoves into view, meaning a mass mail-out of skin whiteners.
And while it’s currently applied in a PC way to prevent, say, transgender people being trigger-traumatised by lectures about cis people like Kant or Sartre, it could just as easily be switched - so that trans people must make themselves scarce whenever someone distressed by their very existence might cross paths. It’s arguably just as traumatic to see someone disabled as for someone disabled to see the abled. and so on.
Triggering is a form of early-onset brain death.
