Despite Dr Jermaine Jenas’ assertions that Charlie often ‘pops his own shoulder back in’, Claude has confirmed he will need surgery and will be put for 3-4 months.
Charlie Austin’s crocked old shite.
He needs doctors.
Ah fuck, this is what I was worried about. Even with the medical team available to him rehabbing a dislocated shoulder takes fucking ages
I fear we will not see him again until 2017/18 season.
Psh. Could be a blessing in disguise if it forces the board to buy a new striker in January.
I’m still not convinced about Austin mind, he just doesn’t do enough for me outside of scoring tap-ins and penalties. That’s all well and good if you’re absolutely prolific, but he isn’t. Still, that’s not entirely his fault as he’s 1) getting very little service and 2) often easily marked as he’s the only target in the box because none of our midfielders seem to want to get themselves into the penalty area.
I know what you mean but Jay proved today that two yard tap ins aren’t always a given. Any player at this level needs to take those sort of chances because you can’t rely on a Boufal style hit every week to score a goal.
I suppose so.
Trouble is that our attacking woes are so much more fundamental that it almost makes whoever’s playing up front a bit of an irrelevance. We can’t break down teams that put men behind the ball because our midfielders can’t thread a pass, beat a man or shoot from distance, meaning that when we move the ball around in the final third, we’re unable to shift the opponent’s defence around or draw them out.
As such, we eventually pass it wide and cross the ball, into a defence that’s had a million hours to prepare to deal with the cross and only has to mark one man in the middle because our midfielders never get themselves into the area (I almost cheered JWP’s header wide in the first half because despite being well wide, it was nice to see him actually arriving late into the area and getting on the end of something for once).
As I say, none of this is Charlie’s fault, but it would really help if we could get someone with a bit of pace in up front who could at least come close to creating his own chances.
2 strikers in January then!
- someone to give them some service.
Exorcise is different to exercise.
“Charlie Austin out for 3-4 month’s fuck”
I wish I could last that long
It’s a valid point that his injury means the club cannot continue to pretend that we have enough power up front.
Fire up the black box…
Speaking as someone who was “out of the game” with a shoulder injury (Rotator cuff - but I don’t like to talk about it) for 4 months after being ruthlessly taken out of a game by a tall and thick-set thug, I wanted to wish a fellow (semi-) pro all the best with his recovery.
I recall that assault on you - that big bruiser charging into you like an aroused rhino, the sort of disgraceful assault that makes ice hockey players wince.
Is Battiston still moaning about that?
He fucking dived - just get up and run it off.
