Other forums

My last post gave me the idea for this post. I was wondering if any of you post on any other forums?

I can be found on a few others. Cycling, Carlise, music, chef and a American Football forum. I mainly spend my time on here and have been catching up with posts that have been made in the past. There are some crackers on here, which I have really found really interesting and funny.

I have done the same on other forums and found them funny as well.

What forums do you find interesting, other than this one and the darkside?

So basically, in your last two topics, youā€™ve decided to:-

  1. Say this forum is giving you grief, then created a poll to collect opinions on how many other people are getting logout grief.

  2. Start a thread intended to promote other forums, on this forum.

With friends like theseā€¦

I am a long time member of an American home brewing forum. After learning most of anything I need to know about brewing, I still hang around there to debate politics, ethics etcā€¦I honestly donā€™t know why I still go there!!!

Of course there is no compitition, just in general. I spend my life on here, outside of work.

Pap is just too embarrassed to mention that happy butt slappy forum he posts on.

I ā€˜belongā€™ to a number of fora (pedancy at its best there). Mainly political and to do with where I live now but also a great Southampton one - pictorial archive.

But my favourite is ā€˜the wonderful world of balletā€™.

I read a few other forums, but donā€™t really post anywhere else apart from here now. The same was true over at TSW. I still have my UI account and occasionally post there, but these days, itā€™s usually only to promote this place or recruit Barry Sanchez.

While the Internet affords the opportunity for communities to easily merge around concepts, rather than vicinity, I find the ā€œspecialistā€ end of most things a bit off-putting. I like chatting with contemporaries, and I think a good mix of people is essential else forums becomes the playground of the an increasingly vocal minority.

TSW was pretty cool off the footy boards, but the main board remains hard work to this day.

Oh yeah the UI. I forgot about them. They are my first forum since 2001 and I very rarely dip in to that one these days, but know a lot of the posters on their personally. Used to go to all games with them! Fun times.

Iā€™m on a number of technical forums, but only when I need to scream for help. I also monitor and post on Computing at School - a forum that brings teachers and IT professionals together for the benefit of students.

XDA Developers is probably the only other forum that I post on.

Oh and saintslist of courseā€¦

Mostly Vintage Aircooled VW forums. In fact Iā€™m the only British moderator on the largest and best Aircooled VW forum in the world (claim to fame ).

Just to make Pap either jealous or thankful that Sotonians hasnā€™t got that big yet, their highest number of visitors at any one time was 3358 this time last year.

Here are some more stats to get your head around:

20 million page views/month
66,000+ visitors/day
731,000+ unique visitors/month
342,000 account members
6.8 million+ forum messages
106,000+ active classified ads
1.2 million+ Gallery photos

Ah, OKā€¦That explains your user name then.

When youā€™re rockinā€™ drum brakes and cross-ply tyres all round, 'tis the sensible way to go.

Respect.

Iā€™m sure the forum you use is probably an American one, but so many people here just donā€™t get that attitude in most matters. I always find Americans most endearing when they go against the ā€œMax out everythingā€ flow.

It is an American site and most of them get the ā€œcommunity spiritā€ of these kind of forums. I have a great deal of time for Americansā€¦wonderfully open and generous people. Youā€™d love these guys who race their VWs on Bonneville Salt Flats every yearā€¦pumping horse power based on the 1200cc 36hp aircooled engines. This one broke the record over the measured mile when I was there in 2011ā€¦ 82 mph

I used to be on a few music forums in the early days of the Internet. In fact, I nearly got a major label deal through a contact made on one of them
