This is the day of all days

Sotonians, awake! Arise from your slumbers! For this day, today, is a truly momentous day. Mark this day well, for it will be remembered for a very long time to come. The great poet McGonagle has been commissioned to compose a melodious lay to mark this great day, and we expect his beautiful verse to be delivered in the near future (he found the event he has been asked to commemorate to be of such moment that for several seconds his mighty creative flow was stilled).

Have you just had a wonderfully satisfying dump to start the day?

My Gran used to say ‘McGonagle!’ after she told me a particularly bad limerick or dirty poem, good memories :lou_smiley:

“1333 www.beautifulbritain.co.ukWars of Scottish Independence: The English won a decisive victory over the Scots at the Battle of Halidon Hill , near Berwick-upon-Tweed. In England the victory, the first for many years, brought a great boost to the morale of the nation. Bannockburn had finally been avenged.”

**Let the bells ring out and joy be unconfined. ** :lou_lol:

I can now announce that the great poet McGonagle has delivered his lines to mark this great day. With no further addition from me (for none is required), I reproduce them here:

LInes on this momentous day of the 19th July in the year of our lord 2017

Oh, great moderator of Sotonians fame,
Forever will be remember’d your name.
Oh man of great shirts with patterns so floral,
On this day we salute you with hymns that are choral.
To us you have brought great joy and delight,
By creating (with His papship) this wond’rous web site.
We herald your triumph, we bask in your glory,
We treasure your threads that are often word-borey.
To you we pay tribute, our arms we outstretch,
Expressing our awe of the mighty Saint_Bletch,
Whose words and whose deeds will long be retold,
And who on this day is fifty years old.

FFS mate. You know this sort of triumphalism is the sort of thing that’ll have @lord-duckhunter gushing over Sotonians with his sticky white duck juice.

Ah on that day, when the mighty Sotonian’s Power Broker was having his little pink botty slapped in a lean-to outside the Gosport Infermary, I was working in an office in London Road for the good of the nation.

What thanks did I get that day? Not a good day for me. :lou_sad:

Turk Town celebrated all those years ago when he was ripped from the womb by his frail shoulders, the sound of Glenn Miller wafting over a backdrop of searchlights as Pompey burned across the harbour.

A saviour, a messiah, a child fit to rule, a small promise of a better tomorrow in a bleak town shrouded in wartime sadness.

Little did they realise that this little pink bundle of hope, dressed in off-the-shoulder velvet onesie with frilly cuffs, would soon take his first paces in peep-toe pumps - legging it up the A32 and away to safety.

The ungrateful little shit.

When I’m not on a short coffee break from being kicked and spat at (working in school today not visiting Gosport), I’ll thank you all properly!

Are there any vacancies at your school?

I’d be quite happy to spend all day kicking you and spitting at you.

How much can I get paid for doing it?

Actually don’t worry about that, I’ll do it for free…if I ever get to the front of the queue.

Bugger.

If I’d known I’d have entered that competition last week to win a Tommy Bahama shirt for him

Happy birthday Bletch. Now you’ve reached a new milestone, maybe it’s time to update your wardrobe.

Don’t worry, you’ll still get noticed.

Oi … I have several Tommy Bahamas Shirts, nothing wrong with them if you chose the right ones

I rest my case…

Well, you’ll be pleased to know that they can now be bought at Dubai Outlet Mall rather than in Karama Market.

They’re on the ground floor about 50 metres away from where Under Armour are still selling last year’s Saints shirts for 63 quid

Awesome poem! The Bletch is well worthy. Happy birthday old man! :lou_lol:

Happy birthday to @saintbletch . Sotonians could not have existed in the way it does without him. He is my Jiminy Cricket, my hetero forum life partner and even better on the spot in real life than he is on here.

People, including me, have moaned about the shirts, but’s that’s the best we fuckin’ got, dammit.

Happy 50th, El Bletcherino. Like yourself, I’m not into that whole brevity thing. You’re a dude.
