Video Referee's

Have been watching the start of the U20 world cup in Korea

England beat Argentina 3-0 earlier today and now South Korea are playing Guineau.

Korea 1-0 up and looked like they had scored a perfectly good goal when the ref indicated Television review

3 mins later the goal was chalked of but ball went over the line before being cut back and over the goal line.

The look on the Koreans faces jubilation to dispair in a few seconds. But the Guineau players then started to celebrate.

disruption to the game a little longer than when a free kick is taken but nothing that would really effect the flow of a game as by the time the Koreans had stopped celebrating the review had been done and so had they. :lou_lol:

Yeah I’m glad video tech is on its way. The France/Spain game a few months back proved quite clearly that any disruption to the game is massively offset by the fact that without it, hugely decisive incorrect decisions can and will be made. The match rightfully finished 0-2, but butterfly effect aside, would have finished 1-1 without the benefit of the video tech.

Arghhhhh, to put in an apostrophe or not to put in an apostrophe? That is the question (for Phil, at least).

He chose the wrong option :lou_sad:

How many ‘h’s’ in Arghhhh. That’s the question

Seems like Bathsaint used too many :lou_lol:

Apostrophes and correct spelling of ‘aaargh’* aside, I wholly concur with Phil’s starter post. Technology has got a whole lot slicker and refs watching replays can produce a verdict on a contentious decision pretty quickly. Yes, there do need to be rules about how many times in a match this is used, but I’d see it as a massively welcome development.

* That was the correct spelling, right there. Obviously.

* Depends if it’s said in frustration or terror

Indeed.

I think you’ll find multiple spellings of arghh/aargh/arghhhhhhhh are correct. Apostrophes, however, follow a specific set of grammatical rules.

Might have to send this guy to the Phillipines…

It’s a no brainer really. Other sports have been using it successfully for years.

Football’s is a multi million pound business/sport and that heaps the pressure on referees to get decisions right, so why hold back on any technology that will aid them ?

I’m not taking the piss, just shuddering at the abuse of the apostrophe.

You sure you weren’t a grocer before you went to the Phillipines? :lou_wink:

I am still watching this competition England are through to the last 16 playing Costa Rica tomorrow.

One of the games had an incident which required the video refs to look at, then the proper ref went off the pitch and started to look at replays on a pitchside screen. he spent a good 3 mins watching rewinding and reviewing the incident before giving a goal kick. it really did upset the flow of the game. we think that includes the commentators whether he was debating whether to give a penalty or not. but there is no word as to what they are actually reviewing.

We could have done with video refs at yesterday’s play-off final.

Not because of any controversy, merely to liven the fecking game up. It was like watching Saints v Hull all over again.
