Cortese on TalkSport at 10:00 (12/09/2017)

I was much happier losing all of those games and having bucket collections to try and help us survive another week.

And then the greedy Liebherrs came in and bled the club dry before running off with the cash, leaving us languishing 60 league places above where they found us.

I heard that Markus hated us winning at Wembley and only took photos as evidence so he could sue the fans for his awful day out.

The last seven years have been nothing short of a frigging disaster. :slight_frown:

I could say the same to you. Funny that she didnt sell up completely although no doubt you will have an answer for that that will also fit your agenda. The reason she sold up, according to her, is that she felt that the club needed more investment to move forward, something she couldnt provide. She has stayed on board to keep an eye on things. Anything wrong in that? Do you really believe that a club our size can continue to progress every season? We have done amazingly well for a club of our size to get where we are. Best of the rest is not an unreasonable ambition. How an earth were we likely to improve on 6th without a Man City or Chelsea sized cashe injection. As we know fair play rules would screw us anyway. We are clearly not going to finish 6th every year. If that is what you want you really are supporting the wrong club. We all agree that last season wasnt wonderful but we still finished 8th and outplayed United in a major cup final and yet still you are not satisfied. Have you ever actually played football? It really is not that easy to go out and beat teams week in week out. We are never going to be a top 4 club so you had better go and raid your kids dummy store because you are going to be spitting them out for many seasons to come.

We’re either a poor team or have a manager employing poor tactics, you can choose.

Where is this Chinese investment?

Where are their goals and objectives?

How have they said we’ll improve?

I’ll say it right now this is a slash and cut exercise, Lander are hardly known for their financial transparency and honesty are they?

All because two people are friends, hand on heart is there anyone happy about this takerover and the manner the Liebherrs have sold the club?

Come on who thinks this is positive?

It is funny how two people can listen to something and come away with two completely different views. If she was going to sell as soon as possible why not doing when her father passed away? No, she stayed on board and has overseen his work in turning us into a well run mid table Premiership team. Yes, Cortese clearly was ambitious and wanted to spend more money. Would Markus have sanctioned his required level of spending? We will never know. Given that he wasnt super rich, I have my doubts. She made it clear that the club needed more investment, something she wasnt in a position to provide, so she sold to someone who could do so. Is there anything wrong with that? Markus has gone. It was his project, not hers. Cortese wasnt really that forthcoming about the reasons (reasons not) that he left. He said there were some personal ones. Didnt that get your alarm bells ringing? At the time we were told that Kat was trying to get some clarity over his spending and wanted more surety about how the cash was being spent. He didnt want that. It was his way or he was off. His choice apparently and he wasnt forced out. So he could have stayed but he did a Barry, spat out his dummy and walked. And do you know what? We continued to do well without him. But you will see it your own way. He is the hero. She is the villain. But forgive me if I threw up a bit in my mouth when Jim White, when introducing him said, “we are in the presence of greatness.” From memory he was in charge of one football club for 5 years in which time he only won a tin pot trophy (and the look on his face at the final whistle told you all you know about how he felt about that). Perhaps we should all bend the knee to his wonderfulness when he has won a few Premiership titles and Champions League trophies? Oh, and you do know that apart from all his hinted links to other football clubs, not one has yet to employ His Magnificance since he left SFC?

“Given that he wasn’t super rich we will never know”.

Well, he was worth north of 3 billion quid when he died. But that is not super rich? I would beg to differ.

£2.9bn of that was tied up in cranes and they’re not easy to sell.

Does that count as super rich nowadays? Perhaps. Still, neither Markus or Kat ever threw Abramovitch sums of money at SFC.

Only two options. Think about it, there are more.

Give them a chance. They have only just aquired the club.

Your doing your “sky sports kind of fan” again.

Improved performance(sporting and financial). Maybe.

Hope you understand Chinese.

Don’t know, but have my reservations. Got any evidence to go with your claims?

More than friends Barry.

As above, don’t know. Let’s wait and find out.

Liebherr not Liebherrs.

The only guarantee i can give about positives is, we won’t be hearing them from you.

The name Liebherr does not appear in the top 20 billionaire list. Bill Gates is top with 86 billion dollars. 3 billion is Del Boy territory in comparison.

With all the guessing on this thread about Lliebre billions go around my guess is most of their money is hidden in Swiss accounts and they dont want to declare or spend it.

For the record Cosese in my opioion is a Northern League Mussilini want abe. I dont like him as a person. I dont want him round for tea and I dont want to have a pint with him, I dont want him near my children. Also for the record I feel very similer about Kat Lieber and Mike Ashley.

The only difference is one of them had a core vision for Southampton FC that I supported and enjoyed the fruits of

It is all very well and good having ambition, but would you let someone loose in a casino every night with your money? He had a budget of £15m for Staplewood and the project came in at £40m. You just cant behave like that with other people’s money. As for the Liebherr’s billions, they are perfectly entitled to do with it what they want. Why do they have to throw it all at a football club? I think most people would say that both Markus and Kat have done a brilliant job getting us back into the Premiership and keeping us there so far and I’d have her round for tea any day. You had better get ready for more major disappointment as the Gao family look ready to provide more of the same.

I agree with most of what you say!

The only difference is I give credit for a brilliant job solely to Nigel for getting us back into the Premier League

To compare the two is nuts. The only similarity is that they own football clubs’. You’re off your rocker.

You do understand that being worth ‘x’ billion doesn’t mean you have that amount sloshing around in your bank account, right?

Yes I forget ‘our billionaire is better than yours’ My apologies

It would be interesting to see if ours actually spent any money at all on Southampton! I think there is a case to say that she lent the club money and got it all back with profits and bought the club and made a profit. That isnt spending as I understand it but Im not an accountant

If you want to make such comparisons, providing a little bit of backing to how you came to that conclusion isn’t exactly too much to ask.

If nothing else, what the score count on relegations presided over?

The club release accounts. You could prove this, if it were true, if you were so inclined.

No because they have run the clubs in a completely different fashion. That and the fact Ashley is a total arse.

Sorry I dont understand the first part of your post.

The second part about the money : hopefully it could be prooved but the German tax authorities are having enough of a difficult time with liebre money Im not sure I have the resources or the inclination. I am interested and happy to be told Im wrong but, does anyone really think she has spent any money that has been lost forever to her bank account on Southampton? and I do mean any money at all. That include flights to the game, lunch at the game, taxi to the airport, beer or champers after the game, hotels and even tips.

I am not so sure about this ‘other peoples money thing’, Soggy. Cortese was the CEO- he should have had the authority to look at external funding sources for capital and infrastructure investments that he felt were necesssary for the growth of the club, and it was not possible within the normal cashflow. Also IIRC, the originalplan was for a 15mil investmnet in Staplewood, but after plans had been approved and work started we had the whole revamp of the academy system which meant the spec for a Cat A academy needed to be met… I amsure there were a few additioal vanity extras, but thsoe who spread the negative stuff taht it was just a 25mil overrun as result never offered any evidence and just hinted ast a few ‘builders’

Forgeting the dynamics of the relationship with KL or whatever was in his contract with respect to his authority, is it not reasonable to assume that such investment is a great thing, and that rather than spunking 40mil of loans on depreciating assets such as players, it is a worthwhile investment that will ensure the CONTINUATION of the academy success is good thing? It pays for itself with players sales, so its low risk…so as CEO trusted by ML, advised by the likes of Les etc, would you not also be a bit mithed if this led to increased anew structure that in effect sent a mesage you were not trusted with the running of the club? (even if the intention was simply more tradtional governance?) Would fans not generally (under normal circumstances) be more supportive a a CEO looking to develop the club using external finance on infrastructure than an owner looking to limit spending?)

I am not saying the above is what happened, but its surely a credible and logical alternative POV?
