Doctors vote to strike for first time in history of NHS

I thought everyone supported the strike? Not just a slim majority…

What is different is that it is polarising opinion.

More people strongly oppose the strikes and more people support the strikes

However more than double the people that responded in Feb 16 say both sides are to blame

As they are, as I’ve outlined on multiple threads in multiple posts. I don’t really think that’s up for debate.

Having just spent some time on the picket line, my assessment is that there is plenty of support. The medics are surprised the public is still so supportive.

Cherts still on his “it’s all about the saturday pay, the BMA are misleading everyone” crap?

Jesus wept, it was dumb months ago, it’s dumber now. Doctors are not being misinformed by the BMA, Junior Doctors are not only striking about Saturday pay.

Instead of sucking at the teat of Jeremy, or your pals sycophantic think tank for your knowledge - try listening to the people involved.

I know, personally, dozens of Junior Doctors - including the gf, of course - every single one of them supports the BMA and not a single one is striking solely about pay. That’s not to say that it isn’t a concern, of course it would be.

The initial proposals would have seen the gf (a trainee GP) facing a 30% pay cut. Why should she not be angry about that? Can you blame people for being pissed at that.

I await more excellent “truth bombs” from Cherts to discredit Junior Doctors - such as “Did you know the BMA are effectively a union?” No shit Sherlock.

…Oh, and she isn’t on strike today. She’s currently on a stretch of 8 nights. Meaning in the last 3 weeks, she has had 3 days off.

Fucking lazy Junior Doctors.

TBF I don’t think Chertsey has ever said doctors were lazy.

I don’t think he has - which is why I put it in a seperate post not aimed solely at him.

But it is certainly a way that people have tried to paint them. Hunt and his pals in the press.

Remember those scandalous stories around the time of the initial discussions. Junior Doctors were seen having holidays. And, enjoying themselves. Disgusting.

The simple truth is that many on the right wing are now actively seeking the “get out” in almost every area of policy. They are desperate to find a reason, any reason, to be able to justify the actions of this government.

I can understand traditional support, but contemporary support? As someone who broke with the Labour Party when it started doing crazy things back in 2002, I couldn’t support them, and I don’t really understand the slavish backing of this lot by Conservatives either.

Sorry, but 3 Junior Doctors on 5live yesterday said that the BMA had lied and misrepresented what the contracts said. One was supporting the strikes, one was supporting without emergency care and the other was against the strikes. However ALL 3 SAID THE BMA HAD MISREPRESENTED.

I have no idea why you can’t accept the BMA have done this. It’s not crap, it’s the undeniable truth, and it seems that you will continue to put your fingers in your ears and shout ‘lalala’ because you’re too close to the situation. That’s the only reason I can see for your continued denial of the truth.

I have no problem with doctors striking about pay. None. In fact I’d support it (without emergency pay). What I have a problem with is it being dressed up as something else to discredit the contract on the table, which is just bullshit. I repeat, if point 16 (Saturday Premium Pay) had been agreed we would not have seen any strikes.

I have never seen them described as lazy anywhere. Perhaps you can post some links to that, because I’d be surprised if anyone could get away with that.

5Live eh?

Why not try your local hospital?

Nip down there, and tell them that they’re all wrong.

By too close you mean I actually know Doctors? So know what their concerns are, and their feelings towards the contract and the BMA?

But I’m the one with my fingers in my ears. Sure thing pal.

As in you’re with one. I’m unsure if you can look at it objectively.

So I’m not allowed to listen to Junior Doctor’s on TV, radio etc for their views on the BMA, is that right? If I don’t know Junior Doctor’s does that mean my opinion is null and void (I know fully qualified doctors but I guess that doesn’t count). Not sure I can do anything to form an opinion on this then, it seems we have to listen to only specific Junior Doctor’s for views on this.

Well I tried to today, but for some reason none of them were working…

Seriously though, why can’t I form opinions from interviews on TV, radio and in the press, without having to be the weirdo that goes to a hospital to disrupt doctors whilst they’re working.

Even easier to find now. They’re outside getting beeps of support from the general public.

Perhaps try again later on. After all, you wouldn’t want 5Live telling you what to think or feel, eh?

I would never let them tell me what to think, but when you are listening to debates from 3 doctors from different viewpoints it’s an eye opener when they all say the BMA are liars.

But as I’ve said, you’re not one to listen to a view that doesn’t fit in with you’re own rhetoric.

Get us a link, Cherts.

You must know what show you were listening to and it’ll be on iPlayer. I’m looking forward to hearing the three different viewpoints that all call the BMA liars.

And absent any direct contact with junior doctors yourself, who the fuck is telling you how to think?

Ah yes, 5Live.

Do you know what, don’t bother replying. I think I’m done.

Unfortunately the site has become one that if you have any sort of dissenting argument against the lefty lean of the site then you’re not allowed an opinion, and what you’re saying must be wrong. It’s a shame but there can be no balance when the most prolific poster will not accept anything other than their own opinions, and any argument is frittered away as a desperate attempt to justify a right wing agenda (not sure when was the last time I actually defended the Conservatives, but it certainly hasn’t happened but something I get automatically accused of when people cant counter my points/questions).

So I think I’m going to leave you all wanking each other off in your anti-capitalist socialist utopia.

C’est la vie.

Edit: For those who don’t know Junior Doctors and want to hear opinions of 3, and patients then go to 5 Live Drive and listen from 2.38 to the end of the show:
