Southampton vs Burnley live score and goal updates - latest here

Show/hide article…

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has played down the importance of beating Burnley ahead of a daunting run of Premier League fixtures.

Saints have managed a steady start to the season under the Argentinian and are currently 10th in the table having taken 13 points from their opening 10 games.

After hosting the Clarets on Saturday, their 10 remaining matches of 2017 include trips to Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, as well as home games against Everton and Arsenal.

However, coach Pellegrino does not believe the tricky forthcoming challenges add any extra pressure to take three points at St Mary’s this weekend.

“Not for me, because it is for everyone,” he replied when asked if the game was particularly significant for Southampton.

“We have got points in the last three games and it’s another opportunity to keep improving and convert these performances into points.

“OK, in the future we play against the biggest teams in the Premier League but we don’t know (how those games will go).

“I’m really happy about that because, for me as a manager, to play against the biggest teams is something that we have to enjoy and I would like to see my players like we played against Man U (a 1-0 loss on September 23), we played really well.

“You don’t know, competition in football, it’s an opportunity to show how we are and we have to show every single week.”

Southampton’s Mario Lemina twerks with Mario Balotelli’s ex-fiancee

Show/hide article…

Mario Lemina may be sidelined with an ankle injury but the Southampton midfielder looked fit and firing as he got down and dirty with Mario Balotelli’s ex-fiancee.

The £18m summer signing from Southampton twerked with Fanny Neguesha, who he has been dating in recent months.

And in a series of videos on her Instagram page, the model and singer can be seen getting up close and personal with the Gabonese.

She can be seen dancing suggestively with the man three years her junior next to a mirror, rubbing her backside into his groin.

The videos may suggest that Lemina’s ankle injury is healing up, but according to the Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino he will be out of action a while longer.

The former Liverpool defender said: ‘Mario continues his treatment. I would expect after the international break maybe he can train with the team.’

The 24-year-old missed the 1-1 draw with Brighton last weekend and has been ruled out of the clash with Burnley on Saturday.

He last played in the 1-0 win over West Brom at St Mary’s last month.

Lemina agreed a five-year deal with the Saints when he joined from Juve in August.

He won two Serie A titles during his time in Italy and helped the side reach last year’s Champions League final.

Lemina has made seven Premier League appearances so far this season but has yet to get off the mark in a red-and-white shirt.

January fixture changes

Show/hide article…

Southampton’s home games against Crystal Palace and Tottenham in January have been given new dates.

The visit of the Eagles, which was due to take place on New Year’s Day, has now been switched to Tuesday 2nd January, at 7.45pm GMT.

That is because of Palace’s home game against Manchester City having been moved to New Year’s Eve.

Tottenham’s trip to St Mary’s has also been moved back a day, to Sunday 21st January (4pm GMT), after Sky Sports selected the game for live coverage.

As previously announced, Crystal Palace has been changed from a Category A to a Category B game because of the required date change, meaning tickets are now even cheaper for the match.

For a full list of Category B prices, please click here.

The cost of Half Season Tickets, which went on general sale today, have already been reduced in line with this, as announced here.

Southampton legend expects Virgil van Dijk to leave before next season

Show/hide article…

Matt Le Tissier expects Virgil van Dijk to leave Southampton before the start of next season despite being reintegrated into the Saints first-team.

The Dutch defender was forced to train with the club’s development squad after handing in a transfer request in August in a bid to force through a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool issued a public apology to the south coast club following suggestions of an illegal approach for the Saints centre-back.

And having made clear he will consider his options in January, Le Tissier does not see Van Dijk’s long-term future at St Mary’s.

“I would guess at the end of the season – if a big enough offer came in for him – I think he will be on his way,” Le Tissier told talkSPORT 2’s Hugh Wizzy.

“Last time it was a little bit different. He had five years left on his contract and the club were not in a position where they had to sell him.

“As the years tick by on a contract, the more likely it is a player will get his move.”

Van Dijk joined Southampton from Celtic in 2015 and, at the end of his first season, penned a six-year contract which runs until 2022.
